Hey everyone, I just spotted this gorgeous 1989 Jaguar XJ-S V12 Coupe on Bring a Trailer with only 27,000 miles on the odometer. This is a stunning example of British automotive engineering from the late 80s. The XJ-S was Jaguar’s grand tourer and this particular coupe appears to be in excellent condition with what looks like original paint and a pristine interior.

The V12 engine is one of the most iconic powerplants ever produced, and at 27k miles, this one is practically untouched. The no-reserve auction format means this could be an incredible opportunity to own a piece of Jaguar history without a safety net. I’ve always been fascinated by the XJ-S design – it’s aggressive yet elegant, a real head-turner from that era.

What really caught my attention is the low mileage. Finding a V12 XJ-S with under 30k miles is becoming increasingly rare. These cars have a devoted following and values have been climbing steadily. The coupe body style is particularly desirable compared to the convertible.

I’m torn between bidding on this myself or just admiring it from afar. The maintenance costs on these V12 engines can be substantial, and parts availability might be an issue depending on your location. But the investment potential seems solid.

Has anyone here owned an XJ-S before? I’d love to hear about the ownership experience. What should potential buyers be looking for? Is this a realistic daily driver or more of a weekend cruiser? And what’s everyone’s take on the no-reserve aspect – does it make this more or less attractive?

The mileage on this thing is insane. 27k miles in 35 years? This has to be garage kept the whole time. That’s the kind of low mileage that makes these cars appreciate nicely. I’d definitely bid on this if I had the capital.

That V12 is absolutely beautiful, but those Jags are money pits. I knew someone who owned a similar model and the annual maintenance alone was pushing $5,000-$8,000 depending on what needed attention. Insurance was also astronomical. Still, it’s an amazing car if you can handle the costs.

The color and condition look pristine in those photos. I’m curious about the service history. With 27k miles that’s such a small number – I’d want full documentation showing when everything was serviced last.

I disagree that these are good investments. The market for 80s Jaguars is niche and unpredictable. You could easily get stuck with something you can’t move. The no-reserve format seems risky to me.

This is the car of my dreams honestly. The XJ-S design never gets old. I don’t care about the investment aspect – I just want to drive it and enjoy it. That’s what cars are for, right?

Thanks for all the comments everyone. You’re right about the maintenance costs – I’ve been researching and it seems like finding a good independent Jaguar specialist is crucial. The no-reserve aspect is making me nervous though. Anyone know what these typically sell for in good condition?

I’ve seen these go for anywhere from $25k to $50k depending on condition and documentation. With 27k miles and appearing solid, I’d expect this to fetch somewhere in that range. The no-reserve is definitely going to affect the final price.

The coupe body is so much better looking than the convertible version. This is the generation that really refined the XJ-S design. If the price stays reasonable, this could be an incredible steal.

These V12s are absolute classics but they’re thirsty for fuel and parts. You really need to be committed to keeping it maintained properly. Not a car for someone who just wants to park it and show it off.

One more thing – make sure you have a pre-purchase inspection from someone who knows Jaguars specifically. Generic mechanics won’t cut it with these cars. That V12 needs expert attention.

Has anyone checked the auction timeline yet? When does bidding end? I want to know how much time we have to research this before the hammer falls.

I’m actually optimistic about these cars long-term. British classics are having a moment right now, and the XJ-S is becoming increasingly recognized as an icon. Low mileage examples like this will only become more valuable.

I’m leaning toward bidding but being strategic about it. I think with the no-reserve format, there’s going to be aggressive bidding from collectors. I’m setting my maximum and sticking to it no matter what.

This is stunning. I’m going to follow the listing and see where it goes. Even if I don’t bid, it’s fun to watch these auctions and learn about the market.
