The spaciousness of these Centuries is underrated. You get full-size sedan proportions in what’s technically a mid-size car. Great for families back in the day.

Anyone considering bidding should check out service records carefully. Low mileage means nothing if it’s been neglected. Original owner history would be a huge plus here.

Hey everyone! I just found this listing on Bring a Trailer and thought it might interest some of you. It’s a 2000 Buick Century Custom with only 33,000 miles on the odometer and it’s going up for auction with no reserve. That’s incredibly low mileage for a vehicle that’s over two decades old.

For those unfamiliar with the Century, it was one of Buick’s most popular mid-size sedans during this era. The Custom trim sits in the middle of the lineup and offers a solid balance of comfort and practicality. With just over 33k miles, this particular example appears to be garage-kept and well-maintained, which is exactly what you want in a vintage sedan.

The 2000 model year falls right during the tail end of the fourth generation Century, which ran from 1997 to 2005. These cars are known for their spacious interiors, smooth V6 engines, and reliable construction. The no-reserve auction format means there’s genuine opportunity here if you’re serious about acquiring a low-mileage example.

I’m curious what people think about this car. Is it a solid investment for a collector, or just a well-preserved daily driver? The combination of low mileage and no reserve is pretty rare to see. What would you realistically expect this to fetch at auction? Has anyone here owned a Century from this generation? Would love to hear thoughts on reliability, parts availability, and what kind of ownership experience you might expect.

The auction is active now, so if anyone’s interested in bidding, you might want to check it out sooner rather than later. Looking forward to hearing what the community thinks about this one!

I owned a 1998 Century back in the day and it was incredibly reliable. Very roomy, comfortable highway cruiser. Never had any major issues. Parts are still relatively affordable and easy to find too.

That’s a really clean find! 33k miles is exceptional for a 2000. The Century has a solid reputation for longevity. I’d expect this to do pretty well at auction given the mileage and condition. These cars are definitely underrated in the collector market.

The maintenance costs on these older Buicks can add up though. Even with low mileage, seals dry out, belts need replacement, and that transmission fluid needs periodic servicing. Budget at least $1,500-2,000 annually for preventive maintenance to keep it running smoothly.

I disagree that this is a good investment. The Century isn’t gaining value like some classics. It’s basically a transportation appliance. Nice example, sure, but I wouldn’t expect appreciation.

No reserve auctions always make me nervous. What if this thing sells for $2,000? At least with a reserve you have some floor. Still, the mileage is what really caught my attention here.

The interior on these is still holding up pretty well compared to other 2000s sedans. The dashboard doesn’t crack as easily as some competitors from that era. That’s a real plus for preservation.

Good catch on the engine question! Looking at the listing details, it appears to be the 3.1L V6. Not the most powerful option, but definitely reliable and gets decent mileage. That 3.8L would have been nicer but the 3.1 is nothing to complain about.

I’m actually following this auction right now. The bidding has been pretty active. People really do appreciate low-mileage examples, especially ones with full service history like this appears to have.

The color on this Century looks fantastic in the photos. Is that burgundy? Really suits the boxy lines of that generation. Good photos definitely help attract quality bids.

This is exactly the kind of car that appreciates over time. Not as dramatic as a sports car, but solid Eighties-2000s American sedans with low mileage and good condition tend to hold value well in the collector market.

Anyone know what engine this Custom has? If it’s the 3.1L V6 those were pretty solid performers. The 3.8L was also available and even better. That could affect value significantly.

I have to respectfully disagree with the reliability consensus here. I’ve seen several of these with transmission issues around 80k-100k miles. They’re not the bulletproof cars everyone claims. Just my experience though.
