The engineering behind this is remarkable when you consider the era. Smokey worked with mechanical and metallurgical constraints that seem almost primitive by today’s standards. I’d love to see what a contemporary engine designer could do if they tried to resurrect this concept with modern CAD, CFD, and materials science.
