This is exactly why I don’t trust cable news anymore. They rush to air without proper verification, and then claim they made an innocent mistake when called out. If this happened at a network news desk, there would be heads rolling.
NBC’s reputation takes a hit with stuff like this. Viewers trust them to get the facts straight, and when they don’t, it erodes that trust. Even small mistakes add up over time.
Was this the 2009 incident or the more recent one? Because if they confused those two specifically, that’s a pretty big blunder given how different the circumstances were.
