Hey everyone! The new 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class has officially been revealed and I wanted to share my thoughts on the exterior design. I’ve been following the spy shots for months, and now that we have the official gallery from Car and Driver, I have to say Mercedes really nailed it this time.

The first thing that strikes me is how refined the design language looks. The front fascia has a more aggressive stance compared to the current generation, with revised headlight styling that gives it a more modern, sleek appearance. The grille seems slightly more integrated into the overall design, which I appreciate – it doesn’t look as imposing as before.

Moving to the sides, you can see the character lines are more pronounced, emphasizing the GLS’s commanding presence on the road. The window line has a subtle upward sweep that adds to the luxury feel. The wheels appear to be larger, which makes sense given the market trends and customer preferences for that premium SUV look.

The rear is where things get interesting. The new taillight design is a significant departure from the current generation – they look more angular and modern while maintaining Mercedes’ design DNA. The diffuser area looks more sophisticated, and the overall proportions seem more balanced than before.

I’m curious what everyone else thinks about the design direction. Does it feel like a proper evolution, or do you think Mercedes played it too safe? Also, would love to hear thoughts on potential color options and how they might look in person. Drop your opinions below!

For those interested, the full exterior gallery is available on Car and Driver’s website.

The front end looks absolutely stunning! Those LED headlights are a game-changer. Really love how Mercedes is keeping that signature grille while modernizing everything around it. Can’t wait to see this in person at an auto show.

I have to disagree with the direction they’re taking. The design feels too evolutionary and not revolutionary enough. Mercedes needs to stand out more in a crowded luxury SUV segment. This looks too much like a minor refresh to me.

Jessica, great breakdown! The side profile is what really gets me – those character lines make it look so premium. I’m wondering about the maintenance costs though. Anyone know what the expected service intervals might be? These new engines usually require premium maintenance.

The rear design is absolutely gorgeous. The taillight integration is cleaner than before, and it actually looks more cohesive with the rest of the design language. Excited for this generation.

Those proportions are beautiful. The GLS has always been about presence, and this new generation definitely delivers on that front. The overall stance looks more planted and aggressive. Love it.

Not feeling the new design as much. The current generation is already near perfect in my opinion. This feels like they’re changing things just for the sake of change. The headlights are too busy looking.

Can we talk about the color options shown in these photos? The exterior finishes look incredible. That metallic gray really shows off the new design details beautifully.

The wheel designs are fantastic. Really complements the overall aggressive stance of the vehicle. Mercedes definitely paid attention to the details with this generation.

Jessica’s right about the refinement factor. This is a matured design that builds on what made the previous generation great. The engineering probably improved significantly too.

I’m impressed with how they’ve modernized the greenhouse design. The windows and pillars have a more contemporary feel while maintaining luxury. The overall silhouette looks more aerodynamic too.

The diffuser design at the rear is a nice touch. Really shows attention to detail. This generation looks like it’ll be competitive with BMW X7 and Audi Q7 in terms of exterior appeal.

Has anyone noticed the door handles? They seem more integrated into the design now. Smaller details like this really add to the premium feel. Mercedes thinking about everything.

The lighting technology is next level. Those headlights have so much presence and character. Really sets the tone for what’s possible in luxury automotive lighting.

I appreciate the evolutionary approach honestly. The current GLS is already iconic, so why reinvent the wheel? This refresh keeps what works and improves what doesn’t. Solid strategy.
