Hey everyone, I’m considering purchasing a used Dacia Sandero from the 2013-2020 generation and wanted to get some real-world feedback from this community. I’ve done some initial research on Autocar’s review, and the car seems like a solid budget-friendly option for daily commuting.

From what I’ve read, the Sandero offers decent practicality with a spacious interior, affordable maintenance parts, and good fuel economy. The 1.0-liter three-cylinder and 1.2-liter engines seem reliable enough for everyday use, though I’m aware performance won’t be impressive. The interior feels a bit basic compared to competitors, but that’s the trade-off for the lower price point.

I’m particularly interested in hearing about long-term ownership experiences. How have yours held up after 5+ years? Are there any common issues I should watch out for? What about reliability of the transmission and engine? I’ve seen some mentions of electrical gremlins in older models, but I want to know if that’s a real concern.

Also curious about running costs—fuel consumption, insurance, and parts availability. The affordability factor is a big draw for me, but I want to make sure I’m not getting a money pit. Any tips on what to check when viewing a potential purchase? Should I get a pre-purchase inspection from a Dacia specialist?

Looking forward to your honest opinions, whether positive or negative. Thanks in advance!

I owned a 2015 Sandero 1.2 for four years and it was bulletproof. Only regular maintenance needed, very affordable to run. Sold it with 85k miles and no major issues. Best budget car I’ve ever owned, honestly.

Don’t do it. I had a 2014 model and the interior fell apart within two years. Plastic trim started peeling, door handles broke, and the infotainment system was completely unreliable. Nightmare to deal with.

The maintenance cost on these is genuinely one of the best aspects. Parts are cheap, servicing is straightforward, and you won’t break the bank keeping it running. Labour costs at independent garages are reasonable too.

Fuel economy is solid—I’m getting around 50 mpg combined with careful driving. Insurance groups are low which keeps premiums reasonable. For a second car or first-time buyer, it’s actually quite sensible.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. The maintenance cost aspect is really appealing to me since I’m on a tight budget. I’ll definitely get a pre-purchase inspection done. Anyone have recommendations for what to specifically check on these models?

The 1.0 engine is underpowered for motorway driving if you’re regularly on A-roads. Go for the 1.2 if you can find one. Much better for everyday use without feeling like you’re driving a golf cart.

I disagree with some of the negativity here. Yes, it’s basic, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. It gets you from A to B without pretension. Not everything needs to be fancy to be good value.

Check the clutch wear on manual versions. Some owners reported premature clutch replacement around 60-70k miles. Otherwise, the gearbox is solid.

The rust can be an issue on older models, particularly around the doors and sills. Make sure any used example you view doesn’t have hidden corrosion problems. Get underneath and check thoroughly.

Resale value drops like a stone compared to other brands, but if you’re keeping it long-term that doesn’t matter. It’s the perfect car for someone who just wants reliable transport without spending much.

Air conditioning can be temperamental on the 2013-2015 models. Make sure it’s working properly when you view the car. Repairs can be costly if the compressor needs replacement.

Honestly? It’s a no-frills practical workhorse. Don’t expect comfort, luxury, or performance, but for reliability and low costs it’s hard to beat in this price bracket.

The steering is vague and road noise is noticeable at motorway speeds. It’s comfortable for short journeys but long road trips can be fatiguing. Worth considering if you do lots of highway driving.
