That’s a weak excuse honestly. Innovation happens when there’s motivation. If cruise companies had to pay for their carbon emissions, they’d switch to clean fuel overnight.
From a pure business standpoint, why would they? Shareholders care about returns. Switching to expensive new tech when diesel works fine doesn’t make financial sense yet.
Has anyone actually experienced the noise difference on newer LNG-powered ships? I heard they’re quieter. That could be a selling point for passengers.
Battery technology on cruise ships isn’t realistic yet due to weight constraints. LNG is the most practical alternative to diesel for now. That’s where the industry should focus.
