The real question is whether GM is preparing for electric heavy trucks. Maybe they’re building out production capacity now so they can transition to EV heavy trucks without losing manufacturing capability. That would be smart thinking.
Another angle: maybe GM is using this heavy truck production ramp as a way to fund R&D for electric and hybrid alternatives. Profits from heavy trucks could subsidize the transition to cleaner technologies.
