Just spotted this absolute gem on Bring a Trailer – a 1976 Ford F-250 Custom Explorer Highboy 4×4 powered by a 410 engine. This is the kind of classic truck that doesn’t come around often. The Highboy configuration is iconic, and combining that with 4×4 capability and serious horsepower makes this a legitimate collector’s piece.

The truck appears to be in solid condition with the classic two-tone paint that was so popular in the mid-70s. The interior still retains that vintage character with the original bench seat and dashboard layout. What really caught my attention is the 410 engine swap – that’s not your typical weekend project. Whoever did the work clearly knew what they were doing.

The auction is listed at no reserve, which means it could go either way price-wise. For someone looking for a genuine high-performance classic truck with authentic 70s charm, this seems like an incredible opportunity. The Highboy body style is becoming increasingly sought after by collectors, and the 4×4 drivetrain adds real capability beyond just show value.

I’m curious what everyone thinks about the condition and pricing expectations. Are there any members here with experience owning similar generation Fords? Would love to hear thoughts on reliability with a 410 swap and what kind of maintenance costs we’re looking at long-term. The combination of classic aesthetics with modern performance is really appealing, but I want to make sure I understand the full picture before getting too excited about bidding.

This is exactly the kind of truck I’ve been hunting for. The 410 swap is aggressive but impressive. Love the Highboy stance. Do you know anything about the build history or previous owners?

Beautiful truck, but I have to be honest – those 410 engines are maintenance hogs. I’ve owned three big block Fords over the years, and the fuel consumption and upkeep costs can easily run $3000-5000 annually if you actually drive it regularly. Just something to consider before bidding.

The Highboy configuration is killer. That front end design aged so well. I think this truck will attract serious collectors regardless of the engine choice.

The no reserve aspect is interesting here. Could go either way. These Fords have been climbing in value though, especially clean examples like this one appears to be.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’ve been researching the 410 platforms pretty extensively. The maintenance concern is valid, but modern fuel injection and computer management have come a long way. The truck seems to have quality work done on the swap based on the photos. Still trying to decide if I should put in a bid or just watch it play out.

I disagree with the pessimism about the 410. Modern stroker engines with proper tuning can be pretty reliable. This isn’t your grandfather’s big block. The truck looks well-maintained from what I can see.

That two-tone paint is stunning. Does anyone know if it’s original or a restoration? The color combination really works for 1976.

Classic 70s trucks are having a real moment right now. This 410 F-250 seems like it’s positioned perfectly for the current market. Could be a smart investment.

The 4×4 capability adds so much value to a truck like this. You’re not just getting a show piece, you’re getting something actually functional. That appeals to me more than a purely cosmetic restoration.

Has anyone actually seen one of these Highboys in person? I’m curious about the scale and presence. Photos don’t always do justice to these older trucks.

The 410 is overkill in my opinion. Would have been just as impressive with a solid 460 or even a well-tuned 400. But that’s what makes the market interesting – different perspectives on what makes a truck special.

Anyone else notice the auction house? Bring a Trailer has such a strong collector truck section. Their vetting process is solid, so at least we know what we’re looking at is legitimate.

I keep coming back to that Highboy body style. It’s so proportionally perfect. Ford really nailed the design language in this era. The 410 power is almost secondary to just owning an example of this generation.

The no reserve auction is a gamble but also exciting. Last time I saw a comparable truck go to auction, it sold well above estimates. Market for these is hot right now.
