Maintenance costs on these can get pretty steep once they’re out of warranty. The transmission servicing, spark plugs, and other scheduled maintenance items aren’t cheap. You’re looking at $800-1200 per year in preventive maintenance if you want to keep it running right.

The 2013 model should have relatively updated electronics compared to earlier IQ years. If you’re parting it out, the ECU and wiring harness could be valuable to the right buyer. Don’t overlook the smaller components.

I disagree with the BMW recommendations. Those luxury PHEVs have terrible depreciation and maintenance costs can be astronomical. Stick with Toyota or Jeep for reliability and resale value.

The Wrangler 4xe is genuinely great. Dealers near me still have decent used inventory. Test drive one if you get the chance – the torque from the electric motor makes it surprisingly fun to drive.
