Beautiful project! The 4-speed is the right choice for a 77 Eclat. I have to be honest though – maintenance costs on these British classics can add up quickly. Budget for frequent carburetor work, fuel system cleaning, and electrical gremlins. I’d estimate $300-500 monthly if you’re driving it regularly. Still worth it though!
The 5.3L is bulletproof. Don’t worry about the engine at all. Your concerns should be: transmission fluid condition, spark plugs, timing chain, and whether the original catalytic converters are still intact.
